Now in theaters: ›The Summer Book‹
Glenn Close in her finest acting role!
An idyllic island in the middle of the Finnish Baltic Sea. This is where 9-year-old Sophia is spending the summer with her father and grandmother. A terrible tragedy has struck the family. Her father is lost in grief and, above all, preoccupied with his own thoughts. And so the unsettled granddaughter and her grandmother – as headstrong as she is empathetic – set out together to explore the island and its surroundings. They talk to one another about life, nature and their love for one another. Eventually, the emotional wounds begin to heal and all three grow closer than ever before.
With "The Summer Book", director Charlie McDowell has created a wonderfully moving adaptation of Tove Jansson’s bestselling novel of the same name. Featuring an outstanding Glenn Close in the lead role as the grandmother! Charlie McDowell was a guest at our festival in 2025 with his film. "The Summer Book" is now showing in German cinemas – don’t miss it if you haven’t seen it yet!
