A moving story of immigration settled in the early 1990s. Twenty-seven-year-old Nour comes from Morocco and is living in France as an illegal immigrant. Together with a few friends, he scrapes by as a petty criminal. Despite all their hardships, they refuse to let it get them down and enjoy a life full of revelry and parties. But the inevitable happens, and one day the friends are arrested by the police. However, thanks to help from a completely unexpected source, Nour is given a second chance.
‘Across the Sea’ follows its main character over the course of around ten years, painting a picture of an entire era. In doing so, the film offers an incredibly multifaceted portrayal of love and desire in all their forms, as well as the immense personal burden of migration. For Nour, it even becomes an existential threat. Yet in the end, we are left with the hope that love may save him. A film of great humanity.
