IFFMH presents: ›September 5‹
Tim Fehlbaum’s award-winning thriller at the open-air cinema in Mannheim on 25 July
Munich, 5 September 1972: At the broadcast centre of the US broadcaster ABC, preparations are underway for the tenth day of competition at the Olympic Games. Then shots ring out in the nearby Olympic Village: Palestinian terrorists have taken eleven members of the Israeli team hostage, shooting two of them dead. And sports journalists around the world are reporting live on the terrorist attack.
Tim Fehlbaum recounts the terrorism at the ‘cheerful Games’ in Munich from the sidelines and behind the scenes, in a highly gripping and deeply emotional manner: the frenzy of live reporting mirrors the horror of the hostage-taking, and the broadcasting of the images is a moral act. A masterfully directed film! Fehlbaum received an Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay and nine German Film Awards! In 2025, he was also honoured with the Grand IFFMH Award at the 74th IFFMH.
