for free: Film Talk + Screening ›On Swift Horses‹

On June 26 at the Cinema Quadrat in Mannheim

On 31 May, the exceptional filmmaker Rainer Werner Fassbinder would have been 80 years old. Although he died aged just 37, his rich oeuvre has lost none of its relevance to this day.

He was also in Mannheim twice: in 1969 with his second feature film ‘Katzelmacher’. And in 1981, just a few months before his untimely death, he brought his latest film ‘Theatre in Trance’ with him. His connection with the IFFMH continues to this day: one of our main prizes is the Rainer Werner Fassbinder Award for best screenplay, donated by the Fassbinder Foundation.

If you want to rediscover or even rediscover Fassbinder's fascinating work, the streaming platform LaCinetek is currently dedicating a show to him and focussing on ten of his films, including "Fear eats the Soul", "The bitter Tears of Petra von Kant" and "The Marriage of Maria Braun".
