“Deface the Currency” is the second collaborative album by The Messthetics and James Brandon Lewis. Recorded in the summer of 2025 during a tour, the band followed drummer Brendan Canty’s impulse to capture their growing live chemistry directly in the studio. Following their acclaimed debut on Impulse!, the quartet now embraces even greater risk-taking and cohesion. Across seven tightly woven tracks, Lewis’s expressive saxophone sound and the energetic rhythm work of Canty, Joe Lally (both members of the post-hardcore band Fugazi), and Anthony Pirog combine to create music that challenges conventions. At Enjoy Jazz, the quartet will present songs from their latest work live in the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region.
