The Last Summer – Video Installation by Hahn+Hartung (24 Sept – 18 Oct)

“This summer could be the last one in peace”—with this poignant yet sober assessment, military historian Sönke Neitzel described the global political situation in the spring of 2025. Berlin-based artists Hahn+Hartung takes up this ambivalent mood in their video installation “The Last Summer” and distills it into an atmospheric image of our present. Amid bustling street cafés, summery lightheartedness, and fleeting moments of happiness, a subtle sense of unease lingers. Against the backdrop of omnipresent crises, wars, and climate change, the normality of everyday life seems to be showing fine cracks. Sometimes bustling, sometimes quiet, “The Last Summer” invites us to reconsider the present moment and question our understanding of peace, while confronting us with the uncertainty of a fragile future.

The series by Hahn+Hartung is on view at PORT25 as part of the ZWISCHENfestival by OFF//FOTO. The festival presents contemporary photographic works from the region and beyond.
