New Moves to Cool Jazz of Hot Movies (III) (Dance Performance)

Film and jazz are children of the 20th century. Born in metropolises—in melting pots such as Paris, New Orleans, Berlin, and New York—they have shaped modern culture and repeatedly come together in new ways. This is reflected in the scores that musicians such as Miles Davis, Duke Ellington, Herbie Hancock, Michel Legrand, Quincy Jones, Peter Thomas, and Sonny Rollins have written for the silver screen.

The dance performance “New Moves to Cool Jazz of Hot Movies” takes up this connection, presenting choreographies by Catherine Guerin, Julia Headley, Giovanni De Buono, Luches Huddleston Jr., and Richard Oberscheven set to music originally composed for films, with the support of dancers from the Rhine-Neckar Delta. With their diverse backgrounds, the ensemble reflects our regional melting pot—and demonstrates that the future can be shaped through creative collaboration across boundaries.
