Music Is a Team Effort! (Tour & Workshop)

Music brings people together—even in the future! No matter when or where: certain themes and functions of sound recur again and again. The exhibition “Worlds of Music” offers insights into this fascinating world. During this workshop tour, participants will learn more about music across time and space while listening to sounds and pieces of music from around the world. The workshop focuses on the angklung, an Indonesian bamboo shaking instrument that was partially banned during the colonial era—out of fear that its communal use would strengthen the resistance. The reason lies in how it is played: Each musician plays exactly one note with the corresponding angklung—an interplay that requires precision and cooperation and enables complex melodies. With the angklung, participants quickly become an orchestra in which everyone is responsible for one note in the shared performance. No prior musical experience is necessary.
