Denkarena: Is Cultural Journalism at an End—or at the Beginning of Something New? (Discussion)

How is cultural journalism changing in an era when newsrooms are shrinking, attention is becoming more fragmented, and new digital formats are emerging? Who will report on culture in the future, provide context, critique, recommend, and shed light on social developments? As part of the Denkarena, representatives from cultural journalism, media studies, and media industry will discuss the present and future of the public sphere of culture.

Participants include Prof. Dr. Dorte Lena Eilers, Professor and Head of the Master’s Program in Cultural Journalism at the University of Music and Theatre Munich; Annika Wind, cultural journalist, editor-in-chief of kultur.west, and editor of Was geht Rhein-Neckar and wo sonst?; Jens Balkenborg, a freelance journalist specializing in film; and Katharina Eickhoff, an author, host, and programme producer for SWR and WDR. In her work, she combines music, culture, literature, philosophy, and contemporary history, drawing on the power of storytelling as a form of cultural communication.
