When a polite façade suddenly crumbles... Hong Sang-soo, the master of undertones, conducts with virtuosity.

Donghwa just wants to drop his girlfriend Junhee off at her parents’ house. The two of them have been seeing each other for three years, but have kept their parents from knowing about their relationship. In the driveway, they bump into Junhee’s father, who invites Donghwa to spend the day with the family. At first, the situation is utterly respectful and harmonious. But as the day progresses and the men consume more and more alcohol, the bond between all people involved is put to the test. What starts off calmly but hilariously ultimately comes to a head. Filmed by Hong Sang-soo as if with a soft focus lens.

Director

Hong Sang-soo, the grand master of South Korean cinema! Born in Seoul in 1960, he has by now made more than 30 films. He was discovered at the IFFMH in 1996 thanks to his debut film ›The Day a Pig Fell into the Well‹. His works are among the most idiosyncratic in contemporary cinema. Always at the centre of things: men’s crises – intellectuals, artists, filmmakers wallowing in self-pity.
