Filmed with refugees in the woods somewhere in Europe’s no man’s land, near the Hungarian border, without artificial light – a small cinematic sensation!

It begins in darkness – deep, pitch-black darkness. Then, gradually, moving lights appear. Slowly, something starts to take shape out of the dark. It’s as if we were witnessing the birth of the light medium of film. What we then see are people in the forests of Europe – people who were not allowed through or were sent back; people in an inhospitable in-between place. Those who transport them are also there. We see them talking and making phone calls in the cold, preparing makeshift meals. We learn only fragments of their stories. And yet it’s enough to stir deep compassion.

Director

Federico Cammarata and Filippo Foscarini are a young Italian directing duo. Their collaboration began with ›Tardo Agosto‹ (2020), a film rooted in field research. Their early works won awards at documentary festivals around the world. They work without a large crew: Federico is responsible for the visuals (camera, etc.), while Filippo handles the sound.
