Between justice and the caste system: with stunning force, Sandyha Suri tells the story of what it means to be a woman in India today. Feminist, politically highly topical, as well as thrilling cinema.

Santosh is only 28 years old when her husband is killed in a riot. Through an Indian government program, she inherits his post in the provincial police force. The experienced policewoman Sharma takes her under her wing and together they begin to investigate the murder of a girl from a lower caste. Santosh is confronted with the harsh reality of patriarchal power structures, wherein corruption and arbitrariness, as well as the fearful silence of victims’ families, are the order of the day. Her mentor shows her how to assert herself as a woman in this system. But at what price?

A feminist thriller about the struggle for law and justice. But also about the courage of a new generation of women and the possibilities and limits of change. Incendiary!
