This brilliant work about a young prostitute whose life is turned upside down is ripe for (re)discovery in a new restoration.

Life couldn’t be more carefree for Rosa: she is the young queen of the Parisian red-light district – spoiled by her pimp, adored by the johns, admired by her colleagues. When she celebrates her 20th birthday, however, her existence is turned completely upside down. What could be worse in her profession than falling in love?! The passionate relationship between her and the young craftsman Julien inevitably presents her with enormous problems.

Paul Vecchiali’s homage to 1930s French cinema and the films of Jean Renoir and Max Ophüls doubles as an exploration of class relations and female sexuality.
