Japan at the end of the 1980s, captured in images of dreamlike, nostalgic beauty. With quiet intensity, Chie Hayakawa observes the longings and loneliness of an entire nation.

1987. 11-year-old Fuki lives with her parents in a suburb of Tokyo. Her father is in the hospital, battling a serious illness. Her mother works full-time and is struggling to keep everyday life together. Left largely to herself, Fuki drifts through the summer holidays, fascinated by telepathy and lost in her own world. When she comes across a phone hotline, she puts herself in great danger.

Inspired by autobiographical experiences, Chie Hayakawa tells the story of a fragile family, in which each member is isolated and searching for closeness. It’s also the story of a vanished world. A film of poetic beauty!
