Post-war Hungary – seen through the eyes of a Jewish boy searching for the truth amid wartime trauma and Ferris wheels.
It’s 1957, and 12-year-old Andor is growing up in Hungary in the aftermath of the popular uprising. His mother has given him an idealised image of his father, who supposedly died in the war. But one day Berend (magnificently portrayed by Grégory Gadebois), a coarse and violent man, turns up, claiming to be Andor’s real father.
Hungary’s current candidate for the Oscars! After depicting Budapest on the eve of the First World War in ›Sunset‹ and Auschwitz in his widely discussed debut film, ›Son of Saul‹, László Nemes now turns his attention to the post-war period in Hungary. This makes him the leading chronicler of his country in cinema at the moment.
