Romania, 1989. The end of the Ceaușescu dictatorship. In the midst of all this political uncertainty, this deafening silence, a young girl disappears without a trace.

Maria is the last person to have seen Alina in the courtyard. After that, her older sister simply didn’t come home. The police launch an investigation, but nothing happens. Instead, the family even finds itself targeted by false accusations. The mother sets out to find her daughter on her own. Then a girl from the neighborhood tells the investigators that she saw a suspicious-looking man shortly before Alina’s disappearance. Hope begins to flicker.

The sensitivity and directorial precision with which this drama captures the fragile psyche of a family in an extraordinary situation are breathtaking. The weight of passing time becomes palpable. And yet, amid fear and grief emerge moments of sheer poetic beauty.
