What is the extent of a mother’s love? A woman (Joan Crawford) does everything she can to secure her children’s affection and give them a bright future.

Among the legendary melodramas of Hollywood cinema, Michael Curtiz’s ›Mildred Pierce‹ is one of the most unusual and best. The title character is a single mother who does everything she can to give her two daughters a life free of financial worries. But the older of the two, after becoming successful, proves to be diabolically ungrateful.

A film that is many things at once: film noir, mother-daughter drama, and a scathing commentary on class relations. As Mildred, Joan Crawford took on her greatest role and earned herself an Oscar.
