In the tradition of David Fincher’s ›Zodiac‹, ›Maldoror‹ is both a gripping procedural crime drama and a dark, disturbing psychological thriller.

Belgium, 1995. Two young girls disappear. Amidst a media frenzy, the police is encumbered by outrageous legal and bureaucratic blockades. The frustrated young gendarme Paul Chartier (Anthony Bajon) decides to take matters into his own hands...

“Les Chants de Maldoror” is perhaps the darkest French book of the 19th century. Its title character, an embodiment of primal evil, here lends his name to a fictitious special police unit. Their investigations are the focus of this nail-biting thriller about the Marc Dutroux scandal in Belgium, which began as a criminal case and grew into a national trauma.

Director

Fabrice Du Welz’s crime, thriller, and horror films are studies of the nature of evil. After studying in Liège and Brussels, he began making short films in 1990. With films such as 'Calvaire' (2004), 'Vinyan' (2008) and 'Adoration' (2019), he was a regular guest at the major festivals and received awards there.
