When intense emotions disrupt the everyday and fate intervenes: screen goddess Maggie Cheung in a playful and powerful romance.

For many Chinese immigrants, Hong Kong in the 1980s represented the promise of a better life. It’s where you could make your fortune. Shy, newly engaged Xiao-jun and assertive, career-minded Qiao belong to the hopeful many. The two meet in the bustling metropolis and quickly become friends. But once love comes into play, their paths seperate.

›Comrades: Almost a Love Story‹ is a touching romance and much more: director Peter Chan raises questions about cultural identity and offers us a glimpse of what the handover of Hong Kong to China meant for the people there.
