This expansion of Claude Lanzmann’s ›Shoah‹ also serves as a terrific introduction – to a monument of Holocaust representation and the psyche of its creator.

Claude Lanzmann’s ›Shoah‹ stands as an epochal milestone in the depiction of the Holocaust. Since 2023, the film has been part of UNESCO’s Memory of the World Register. The director worked on the production for 12 years, 11 of which were spent traveling across Europe to conduct interviews with victims, witnesses, and perpetrators – all because he wanted to grasp the reality of the Holocaust.

Now, filmmaker Guillaume Ribot has delved into more than 220 hours of previously unseen footage from ›Shoah‹. Using only Lanzmann’s own words and previously unseen excerpts, Ribot pays tribute to the director’s tireless quest to tell the untold.
