Kafka and Cinema

It's been ten years since Heidelberg was given the title UNESCO City of Literature. To mark the anniversary, the Mannheim-Heidelberg International Film Festival and the Karlstorkino are presenting a film series on the writer Franz Kafka from June to October, the centenary of whose death will be in 2024. The five-part film series invites you to discover Kafka's cosmos from three different cinematographic perspectives: as film adaptations of Kafka's works, as Kafkaesque cinema influenced by Kafka's works and as films that Kafka himself saw in the cinema. The film series “Kafka and Cinema” starts on June 7 with ›The Trial‹ (1962) by Orson Welles, a dark expressionist thriller based on Kafka's perhaps most famous novel.
