Lumière – L'aventure continue (Film)

Shortly before 1900, the future was in the air. In Paris, the Eiffel Tower had been reaching for the sky since 1889, and in London, the first subway had been racing through the tunnels since 1890. And on December 28, 1895, the Cinématographe, invented by brothers Louis and Auguste Lumière, made its debut at the Grand Café in Paris. The audience was astonished by the 20 films, each just under a minute long; panic is even said to have broken out when ›The Arrival of a Train at La Ciotat Station‹ was shown.

›Lumière – L’aventure continue!‹ (Lumière – The Adventure Continues) offers a glimpse of what the dawn of cinema felt like. Thierry Frémaux, director of the Institut Lumière and the Cannes Film Festival, has compiled 120 film scenes that capture everyday and historic moments—cinematic gems that astonished audiences back then and continue to impress us today. They have been impeccably restored and are being presented to the public for the first time—in the cinema, of course.
