Video-Vortrag: "Frauen im postkolonialen Kino" mit Rim Mejdi

15.11.2024 18:00

Saddie Choua's video installation “Today is the shortest day of the year but somehow hanging around with you all day makes it seem like the longest. Perverse Decolonization.” is a playful and radical deconstruction of body images in cinema. With a method she calls “meta-documentary”, Choua brings together central works of film history: Chantal Akerman's feminist masterpiece ›Jeanne Dielman‹, Leni Riefenstahl's works of docu-exploitation and ›Black Girl‹ by Senegalese director Ousmane Sembène (which will also screen as part of this year's retrospective). The work puts us right in the middle of (film) history and creates space for reflection through sudden fissures and bursts of humor.

When and where: The installation can be visited at any time during the opening hours of the Festival-Lounge Heidelberg on all festival days. Languages: English and French. Completely barrier-free.

To accompany the installation, Moroccan film historian and curator Rim Mejdi will give a lecture on women in postcolonial cinema on 15 Novemberat 6:00 pm. The lecture will be held in English and will also take place in the Festival-Lounge Heidelberg.
