Jan Bonny's Neo-Nazi fantasy stages a more painful confrontation with the failures of state and society than any other recent film.

The underground can be such a drag: Tommi can't get it up and, to Becky's displeasure, can't really get into murder either. Whereas Becky dreams of sex with blacks and the murder of foreigners, he wishes to have a threesome with Becky and another man. When Maik joins them, they can finally give free rein to their urges and fantasies.
What is ruthless about ›Germany. A Winter's Tale’ is its resolute and exclusive focus on the perpetrator's perspective. There is no escape, no catharsis, no deus ex machina. The fusion of xenophobia, sex, primitive power games and murder is hard to stomach. ›Germany. A Winter's Tale’ premiered in Locarno, won Best Film in Cologne and was the big winner at the German Film Critics' Association Awards: the team headed by Jan Bonny and producer Bettina Brokemper took home three prizes, including Best Film of the Year.
Jan Bonny studied at the Academy of Media Arts in Cologne. He has worked with Bettina Brokemper since his graduation film ›Counterparts’ (2007). The film received an honorable mention in Cannes and was nominated for the European Film Award. ›Germany. A Winter's Tale' premiered at the Locarno Film Festival.
