Relationships based on faked facts never lead to a happy ending. A stunningly ruthless body horror classic.

To find himself a new wife, the lonely widower Shigeharu devises a dubious plan. He hires a friend who works as a film producer to organize a fake casting, so that he can evaluate the “candidates”. This ploy promptly introduces him to the shy Asami and he falls in love with her. But the young woman has other intentions and Shigeharu realizes too late what is in store for him. Takashi Miike’s work is characterized by a wide stylistic range. ›Audition‹ takes the viewer by surprise, starting out as a deceptively quiet drama that grows into a nightmare about a woman who takes control of the body of her supposed husband.
