German Film Award 2025

At this year's German Film Awards, The Seed of the Sacred Fig‹ was honoured with a Silver Lola in the Best Feature Film category - after an Oscar nomination for Best foreign language Film and the Special Jury Prize at Cannes 2024, this is yet another major award for the political thriller by Iranian director Mohammad Rasoulof. Rasoulof tells a gripping family story about Iman, a judicial employee in Tehran, played by Misagh Zareh, who gets caught between the fronts of morality and loyalty to the regime. The film is set in the time of political resistance in 2022, and while the theocracy is increasingly shaken on his own doorstep, tensions within his family also begin to grow. Misagh Zareh was honoured with the Lola in Gold for Best Male Actor in a leading role. Our heartfelt congratulations to the entire film team! The Seed of the Sacred Fig‹ screened at the 73rd IFFMH last year and delighted the audience. Our guest was actress Masha Rostami, who plays one of the two daughters in the film and embodies the political resistance within the family.
